October is the National Fire Protection Associations prevention month. Did you know that your dryer exhaust should be cleaned annually? This will not only prevent a fire but reduce your energy costs. It is hard to believe that so many fires start with they dryer. Behind the stove and hot water tank, the clothes dryer is the next most likely appliance to catch fire in your home. According to FEMA, failure to clean your dryer vent is the most prevalent reason that dryer vent fires happen. If you think about it, if there is nothing built up in your venting system (lint) then there is nothing to catch fire.
